About Mike
I am Kenneth Michael (Mike) Warner. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to Kansas in 1977. I have lived in Douglas County, Kansas, since 1989. I currently live in Lawrence, but I previously resided in Eudora.
I attended the University of Missouri—Kansas City and earned a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. After that, I was a college instructor before attending law school at Washburn University of Topeka. During law school, I also worked part-time as an instructor at Washburn’s School of Business. I was the first member of my family to attend either a university or professional school.
With nearly 40 years of experience, my legal practice has primarily focused on criminal law. I have worked as a state or federal prosecuting attorney for the majority of my career. Additionally, I have experience as a criminal defense attorney, which has given me an understanding of this role. You can read my full resume.
I am married and have an adult son and daughter, plus three adult stepchildren. My family includes a spoiled dog and two pampered cats. Moreover, I have an 8-year-old grandson. From my own and extended family history, I am familiar with divorce and remarriage, LGBTQ issues, non-binary identification, and autism. For some years, I was a single parent for my son.
Fortunately, I am healthy and in shape. I enjoy golf, have tried pickleball, and work out daily. I follow all college and professional sports.
I want to restore the District Attorney’s Office to a level of competence it has not had over the past four years. I entered the District Attorney’s race to ensure a full and complete election, for all Douglas County voters. I do not have a political agenda nor am I supported by those that do. My primary goal is to create a better-functioning, more communicative, successful District Attorney’s Office. I intend to be a law enforcement official, not a politician.
